Dry Needling

A targeted physiotherapy technique that may help reduce pain and sensitivity in some people, particularly in the short term. At Titan, dry needling is used when there is a clear clinical reason to use it — often to make movement, loading or rehabilitation more comfortable.

What to expect
Assessment firstWe start by understanding your symptoms and deciding whether dry needling is an appropriate option for you.
A targeted treatmentFine, sterile, single-use needles are inserted into selected areas based on the clinical assessment.
A short-term responseSome people experience reduced pain, sensitivity or muscle tension following treatment. Others notice little additional benefit.
Movement and rehabilitation afterwardsWhere appropriate, we use any reduction in symptoms as an opportunity to move, load or exercise more comfortably.
When it may be useful

Sometimes reducing symptoms creates an opportunity.

Dry needling may be considered when pain, sensitivity or muscle tension is making movement or rehabilitation more difficult. It can be used as part of a wider physiotherapy plan, or in some cases as a direct treatment where assessment suggests it is appropriate.

It is not necessary for everyone, and it does not replace the need to address strength, movement, loading or other factors that may be contributing to the problem.

How it fits at Titan

A tool, not the whole toolbox.

Dry needling can sometimes help turn down pain or sensitivity, but it does not repair tissue, build strength or restore physical capacity.

The needle provides a mechanical stimulus to the tissue and nervous system. This appears capable of altering local biochemical activity and pain processing, which may temporarily reduce sensitivity and make movement more comfortable.

Some people respond very well. Others notice little additional benefit. Both are entirely plausible.

At Titan, we use dry needling when it helps create a useful window for movement, loading or rehabilitation — not because every painful muscle needs a needle.

The aim is always to use the right tool, for the right person, at the right time.
