More Than a Timetable: Why We Chose the Classes at Titan

BY DAVID GOW9 MIN READ

Exercise should not be one-size-fits-all. The six programmes at Titan were chosen to answer different questions, not to be different versions of the same class. Here is the thinking behind them.

Exercise should not be one-size-fits-all.

Some people need an opportunity to slow down and move.

Some want to develop better control and awareness of their body.

Some have never stepped inside a gym and have no idea where to begin.

Others are rebuilding after injury, surgery or pain and are not quite ready to exercise independently.

And some simply want to become stronger, fitter and more physically capable.

Those people do not all need the same class.

That is why we built the programme at Titan differently.

We did not want to fill a timetable simply for the sake of having one. We wanted to create different environments for different people, with each programme having a clear purpose.

Six programmes.

Six different reasons to move.

Yoga — Slow down

At Titan, we spend a lot of time talking about strength, load, progression and physical capacity.

But movement does not always have to be about doing more.

Sometimes it is useful to slow down.

Yoga offers an opportunity to work on mobility and flexibility while also bringing attention to breathing, awareness and presence.

For some people, it may complement running, strength training or sport.

For others, it may simply be an hour in the week to move, breathe and decompress.

We do not see Yoga as something that needs to “fix” you.

Sometimes the value is much simpler than that.

Move. Breathe. Slow down.

Pilates — Move with control

Pilates offers something different.

The emphasis shifts towards coordination, precision and control.

Sessions can explore how the trunk, ribcage and pelvis move together, how breathing interacts with movement and, where appropriate, develop greater awareness of the pelvic floor.

But Pilates should not be reduced to the idea that everybody needs a stronger “core” or a perfectly controlled spine.

Human beings are designed to move in lots of different ways.

Pilates simply gives us an environment in which to explore movement more deliberately.

Move with control.

Titan Start — Learn to begin

Walking into a gym can be intimidating.

If you have never lifted weights, do not know how the equipment works or have spent years away from exercise, joining a conventional fitness class can feel like being dropped halfway into somebody else’s story.

Titan Start exists for that person.

It is a supportive introduction to exercise and the gym environment.

You learn foundational movements.

You learn how equipment works.

You begin developing strength and fitness.

Most importantly, you build confidence.

There is no assumption that you already know how to squat, hinge, lift weights or structure an exercise session.

You are there to learn.

Because strength training should not only belong to people who already feel comfortable in gyms.

Titan Start is about learning to begin.

Titan Rebuild — Learn to return

Titan Rebuild may look similar to Start from the outside, but the reason for being there is different.

Start builds familiarity and confidence. Rebuild restores lost capacity.

Rebuild is for people coming back from something.

An injury.

Surgery.

A flare-up of pain.

A prolonged period away from exercise.

You may have completed the early stages of physiotherapy but still not feel ready to walk into a gym and train independently.

That gap matters.

Too often rehabilitation ends with something close to:

“Your pain is better. Off you go.”

We think there should be another step.

Titan Rebuild provides a bridge between rehabilitation and independent exercise, allowing strength, movement and confidence to continue developing in a supported environment.

The aim is not simply to recover from something.

It is to rebuild towards something.

Learn to return.

Titan Strength — Build strength for life

Strength is useful at every age.

It matters for sport and performance, but it also matters for healthy ageing, bone health, physical independence and everyday life.

Titan Strength is our progressive resistance training programme.

People learn the major patterns that underpin strength training — squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, carrying and lifting — and gradually become more capable over time.

There is an important distinction here.

Titan Strength is not just a collection of hard workouts.

We want people to actually learn how to train.

How to perform the movements.

How to choose an appropriate weight.

How to progress.

How to become comfortable with resistance training rather than always needing somebody else to design every exercise for them.

And you do not need to already be strong to belong in a strength programme.

That would rather defeat the purpose.

Build strength for life.

Titan Fitness — Build your engine

Strength is one part of physical capability.

Fitness is another.

Titan Fitness focuses on cardiovascular fitness, strength endurance and overall work capacity — essentially improving the body’s ability to do more.

Sessions may involve appropriately challenging intervals, resistance exercises and varied conditioning.

Heart rates will rise.

Breathing will become heavier.

It should occasionally feel difficult.

But this is not exercise as punishment.

We are not interested in exhausting people simply for the sake of saying a session was hard.

The aim is to progressively build a better engine.

More cardiovascular capacity.

More endurance.

More resilience for the demands of sport, work and everyday life.

Build your engine.

Different programmes. Different purposes.

These six programmes are not simply different versions of the same class.

They answer different questions.

Need to slow down? — Yoga.

Want to move with greater control? — Pilates.

Not sure how to begin? — Titan Start.

Building back after something? — Titan Rebuild.

Want to become stronger? — Titan Strength.

Want to improve your overall fitness? — Titan Fitness.

And they are not necessarily a ladder that everybody has to climb.

Someone might attend Yoga alongside marathon training.

Someone may move from Titan Rebuild into Titan Strength.

Someone who has never exercised may begin with Titan Start and later feel ready for Strength or Fitness.

Others may simply find the programme that suits them and stay there.

There is no single correct route.

At Titan, exercise is not an afterthought to physiotherapy. It is part of how we think about long-term health and physical capability.

That is why we created these programmes: to give people different ways to move, learn, rebuild and progress — depending on what they need right now.

Wherever you are starting from, there should be a way to move forward.

If this resonates with something you're dealing with, these services at Titan are a natural next step.
